The department was established in 1971, three years after college was established. It was headed by Late Prof.Peer Sahib Miyan who worked relentlessly for building the department to a level that it has assumed to be one the most sought of after department. From the student strength of 30 when it was started it has reached now to 700 Plus . Late Prof.Peer Sahib Miyan a grass root worker of Al-Ameen Movement has nurtured the department till his superannuation in August 1993.
